BBC and "In the Night Garden"
The BBC also known as the British Brainwashing Corporation
sponsored millions of dollars on a teletubby esque show entitled
"in the night garden". There were several aspects of this
vivid little program that i found rather interesting.
The overview from Wikipedia
"Each episode starts with a child in bed (a different child appears in each episode), while the narrator introduces the episode. The scene cuts to Igglepiggle, in his boat, travelling to the Night Garden. The episodes end with one character receiving a bedtime story, which is generated by the "Magic Roundabout" style gazebo that sits at the centre of the Night Garden. This story is a summary of the plot of the episode. Sometimes the characters all sing and dance together under the gazebo."
My husband says that the opening scene is rather hypnotic and
to me the child appears to be in a trance like state. Now anyone who has
even briefly read about MK Ultra and mind control experiments
with LSD would raise an eyebrow here.
The child is also encouraged
to identify with the blanket wielding Iggle Piggle who appears to
enter the night garden via his dreams or a dream like state which is
depicted in the dream as being afloat on a boat alone in the middle of the ocean.
I also decided to make several notes on my
observation of the various characters.
The character Upsey Daisy has a moving bed
and is somewhat intimate with the other
characters such as Iggle Piggle whom she kisses
on the lips. The metaphor of the moving bed could
indicate some sort of an encouragement towards promiscuity.
The fact that this character
wears a skirt which depicts a white daisy with red tints.
[tainting of purity symbol possibly] The skirt often flies up
to reveal red panties underneath. Red underwear has always
been regarded as highly sexual.
The Pontipines are a family of 10 who
move around in complete order and
observe from afar but never interact
with the other characters except in the
scene in which all characters dance under
the carousel. This family could be a metaphor for order and
conformity. The creator of the show was also quoted
somewhere of saying the goal of the show was to
improve parent and child relationships.
This definitely sounds like dumbing down and oppressive
thinking. In other words, stay in line or else..
MakaPaka is a creature who lives
under a bridge in a rocky cave. Who lives
under bridges? The answer is a drug addict.
Who surrounds themselves with Rocks? The
answer is the same, rocks being another name
for crack cocaine.
The Tumbliboos are three
babies who remove their pants before
they enter their homes. They sleep together
and kiss each other. From a superficial view,
this sounds cute and innocent but digging deeper
into the nature of national broadcasting and the
media mirage forces me to confront the fact that there
may be subliminals at work here.
It is also interesting to note that several elements
of mind control and hypnosis are present in the show
such as the carousel and the act of taking flight via the
plane named pinky ponk and the colors of the two
families , Blue and Red. The numbers three and nine
are present in the form of the Tumbliboos and Makapaka with
three rocks piled on three sides of his face.
I will update more as i watch the episodes with
my husband.
